Hi folks,

Was wondering if anyone here would share their experiences with clicker training?  I've been reading up on it and am rather impressed with the method and results that can be achieved.

I'm fairly new to horse ownership, and now that I only own one horse (16yo mare) due to the demise of my old gelding last week, I've decided to get serious about her training.  I've ridden her a few times over the past 6 months - just up and down the road.  She's a good honest horse (arab x), though forward, which I like,  but slightly flighty, which I can do without 'cos I'm a wimp..

I'm considering taking our relationship back to basics with clicker training, then work on my atrocious riding skills after that.

Any thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated.
Cheers

My sister has been doing clicker training with her young filly and has taught her to count, shake hoofs,go away, come back, wait, and is now teaching her to bow.

Yeah, i do clicker training with my horses. I have taught him all sorts of things, from tricks to getting a good square halt under saddle.

did a couple of sessions with Jane Meyers who introduced clicker training, its basically the same as food reward training a dog but they learn to obey to a clicker which can then just become a gesture or a snap of the fingers.

im not really into clicker training cos i dont reckon you should train the horse the same way as a dog etc.

however, i do myself 'click' my tongue to my horses and have a few different 'clicks' that mean different things and my horses seem to understand.

i can touch their feet and click and they put their foot up.

but i can be riding and walking and click and they will trot.

different click, but still a click! lol
